Chu Wanghua is a famous Chinese composer and pianist, traveling and living in Australia. He was born in 1940s, has been through the Great Culture Revolution, the Reform and Open, and Learning and living in Australia. The pursuit of arts has made him restless on composing through all his lifetime, which could be considered a continuous process: in every decade there are new works of him coming out. In his half-century composing career, piano works are the mainstream, of which piano soli occupies a big proportion. His piano music deeply rooted in the soil of Chinese culture, the expression of Chinese characteristics is the most impressive part. The "Chinese style" has become the stand and goal of his composing career. Many of his works are wide-spread, which are the common programs in music education practice and various concerts. The piano music he has composed is a great contribution to the Chinese piano music literature.In this article, the research on the piano works of Chu Wanghua is proceeded on the following aspects: I.The characteristics of Chu Wanghua's piano composition. From time background and personal experience, the author analyzed the influence of different environments on Chu Wanghua, and the representation of his personality in his composition. The author summarized different composing stages, exploring the composing characteristics of his piano solos. II. The performing practice of Chu Wanghua's piano works. In this part, the author, through her performing practice combining with the theoretical research and thinking, elaborate the explanation and representation of Chu Wanghua's piano works on the performing aspect as a performing practice writing, which is a re-creation of the Chinese characteristics of his solos. III. This part, basing on the previous two parts of analysis, standing on a point view of culture, demonstrates the aesthetic meaning of Chu Wanghua's piano solos, exploring the common representation among them, revealing and confirming the Chinese characteristics in his composition.
