In the 1980s' late, a New Historicism wave swept across China, and left us with a large number of texts and films with New Historicism characteristics. When the noise and excitement subsided gradually, we can take the rational analysis and reconsidering on Chinese New Historicism ideological trend and the creative works produced under this trend standing at the new century's threshold. From the angle of the macro-theory and basing on the deep understanding of the film scripts, this article straightens out the production and development of the New Historicism. Besides, through appreciating and analyzing the concrete New Historicism films, the article reveals and evaluates the spirits, esthetic value and significance of the films as well as their defects.The prefact clears up the complicated relation between history and film. The first chapter mainly introduces the origin and development of the New Historicism in foreign countries and development in China. And if also delves into changes of Chinese films influenced by the New Historicism, thus the appellation of "the New Historicism film" is named.The second chapter and the third chapter basing on the concrete film scripts, analyze and prove the spiritual direction and the artistic pursue of the New Historicism film. If the folk consciousness substitutes for the legitimate mainstream consciousness, the inevitability of the historical development rule inevitability yields to the contingency of unexpected matters, the lofty sacred spiritual pursue returns to petty and involved trifles of worldly life, character portrayal——primary human being nature reactivated, the expression means——the logical combination of the fabliced and symbolized methods, the narrative way——focusing on mul-angle research which show artistic exploration of the New Historicism films.The forth chapter deals with objectively the New Historicism films significance and their flaws. On the one hand, the New Historicism films are practicing powerfully the inference "narration is one kind of right" and break the barriers of the old views of film creation, which are great contribution to getting rid of barriers between "film" and "history". Meanwhile in the film narrative structure aspect, the bold innovation has realized the movie narrative multiplication. On the other hand, the New Historicism films also have some negative influences. The New Historicism films taint the story constructive color to oppose hegemony of the orthodox words. But this kind of extreme behavior is easy to lead the film to fall into another kind of words hegemony. Moreover, this playing attitude to the history misrepresents the history and destroys the spiritual wealth that make human stand and the culture soil, all the spiritual significance and pursuit related to moral, the significance, belief and laws all will sink to the nihility abyss.Chinese New Historicism films posses the very strong localized color, therefore, we should go out the wrong reign that is the Chinese New Historicism is the reproduction of the foreign New Historicism, and make an objective judgment from the angle of localization.
