What is mental health? What is the standard of estimating mentalhealth? It is an important research object in the field of academic study.There are various explanations of mental health defined by differentscholars. With the development of society, more and more people payattention to mental health. So it is significant to research mental health ofthe residents.In order to understand mental health of the residents of Nanjing andexplore its influence factors, 495 residents of Nanjing were investigatedby SCL-90 and investigation questionnaire about influence factors ofmental health produced by ourselves. At last, 24 psychological workerswere interviewed by qualitative methods. The prevention mechanism ofmental health of residents of Nanjing is ascertained by the interview.The research results show that the residents of Nanjing have highermental health level than national common population. However, about12.5% of residents of Nanjing are likely to have mental health problems.There are no significant difference between sex, age and marital status onresidents' mental health. The residents with higher education enjoy bettermental health. The personality characteristics are associated with mentalhealth. Residents' mental health is significantly different with differenttypes of personality. Education, economic burden, obtaining social support, interpersonal relationship, media and neuroticism of personality factorscan significantly predict residents' mental health, especially interpersonalrelationship. By interview, it is essential to build three-level networkprevention mechanism of mental health. Furthermore, this researchsuggests improvements in residents' mental health.
