Loneliness is a negative and perplexed psychological state. Children who are undersuch conditions for a long time will suffer from bad adaptation and harm to health ofbody and mind. The resident middle school students, as a special social group, are at thecritical moment of life development. Since their unique study and life conditions,loneliness must influence their health of body and mind. Therefore, it is a importantissue to the psychological education of middle schools to leave aside their lonelinessand build up their body and mind. Based on this, this study modify the lonelinessquestionnaire of the resident middle school students on the basis of former researchesand open questionnaire.800resident middle school students are investigated by usingthe modified questionnaire. The effect of gender, grades, school nature, and etc areanalyzed to investigate the characterization and status of loneliness of the residentmiddle school students and explore the relationship of loneliness, social support andmental health. The purpose is to enrich the research of loneliness, supply theoreticalevidences in the light of healthy and psychological education. The results of the studyare as follows:(1)The resident middle school students’ loneliness are a multidimensionalconcept, which includes decline, loneliness feeling and accept.(2)The modified “The loneliness Questionnaire for Resident Middle SchoolStudents” can be used as a tool of the study for its test indicators achieve the standard ofpsychometrics.(3)The resident middle school students’ loneliness level is generally in a goodcondition.The demographic variables had significant effects on the resident middleschool students, including grades, boarding types, school nature, school geographical,Academic performance ranked, parents’educational mode and family atmosphere. Butthere is no significant difference on genders and whether the one-child.(4)There is significant negative correlation between loneliness and mental health. Loneliness is the predictor of mental health. There is significant negativecorrelation between loneliness and social support. Social support is the predictor ofloneliness. There is significant positive correlation between social support and mentalhealth. Social support is the predictor of mental health.The resident middle schoolstudents’social support plays a mediating role between loneliness and mental health.
