From The Nature Of Lacquer To The 'Art' Of Contemporary Chinese Lacquer Paintings

Over the past years, the author has focused on the making of contemporary Chinese lacquer paintings. This thesis concentrates on some of the principal characteristics of lacquer, which the author has summarized as a result of his research, study and personal experience with lacquer art. He also discusses how such lacquer characteristics can be used to enhance the creation of modern lacquer art. Together with the analyses on how the artistic principles, impressions and concepts of Chinese aesthetics are steering the course of contemporary Chinese lacquer art, it is certain that Chinese lacquer art is destined to follow a path that integrates Chinese essence, modern elements and spiritual connotations.
