As one kind of poem, poetry chanting things is one of the oldest poetry in the classical literature of China, which has came into being as early as in the era of The Book of Odes. Quyuan's Singing Orange is a typical poetry chanting things. From then on, it has made a considerable progress. When it comes to the later period of Middle-tang dynasty. Both the quantity and the poets of it have increased comparatively. Not only in its topic and content, but also in the artistic technique, it has become more abundant, extensive and more skillful, versatile respectively.This paper is composed with the purpose to make a comprehensive survey on the development of poetry chanting things of that time. The first part elaborates the process of its development, describes the general situation in that time and gives a brief introduction to its growth till the Middle-Tang dynasty. Also, it talks about some poetry chanting things composed in that period.The main body of this article puts emphasis on the thesis and artistic feature. At that time, the poets used it for different purposes, such as to satirize, or to reflect the reality, or to express his own feeling and thought, or to ponder over the meaning of life, and so on. Like Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, to name a few, they combined the characters of that age into their poems, which expanded the scope of its content and enriched the artistic techniques. While Han Yu and Meng Jiao, representatives of the Han-Meng Poetry Writing School, focused on imagination. With novel ideas and unique aesthetic styles, they made a very positive contribution to the development of the skills. The last part, by comparing the poems of the era of Middle-Tang dynasty with those of the whole history, briefly discusses its influence upon Li Shangyin and poor scholars advocating Popularity of the later period of Tang dynasty.
