Research On The Relationship Between Cognitive Characteristic Diagnosis Of The Figure Reasoning Testing And The Cognitive Styles

Bringing in the Multicomponent latent Trait models for Multiple strategies, this article made the diagnosis to the cognitive characteristic of figure reasoning testing, and made evaluation to individual figure reasoning level from the microcosmic aspect .By using the verbal report, this research found the strategies used by individual when he gave responds to the figure reasoning items. These strategies were perceptual analytic strategy,analytic strategy and guessing strategy, which would contain several psychological process components mainly including visual perceptual cognitive reasoning testing, figure reasoning analysis testing and figure reasoning rule application testing. Adopting MLTM for MS, this research made the analysis of data from three tests. The results indicated (1) MLTM for MS can not only make us understand the abilities of individual figure reasoning, but also make us understand the level of ability on rule constructing,the level of ability on rule application and the level of ability on visual perceptual cognitive. Meanwhile it can decompose the possibility of correct responses to figure reasoning into combinations of some correct possibility.(2) By using MLTM for MS, and based on the individual represent of figure reasoning tests, we can understand their psychological process components when they gave the responses to the figure reasoning items, and what strategies they used. Then we diagnosed the reasons why individual made mistakes.After the above research, we continued to explore the relationship between the cognitive styles and the components of figure reasoning, and the relationship between the cognitive styles and solving strategies. The result showed (1) the cognitive styles would influence the choice of figure reasoning's solving strategies. Subjects of field-independent were more likely to adopt the perceptual analytic strategy or the analytic strategy, seldom adopting the guessing strategy. While subjects of field-dependent can not give the correct responses to the figure reasoning items by using the perceptual analytic strategy and the analytic strategy, but guessing the answer. (2) There was no significant relationship between the cognitive styles and the ability of visual perceptual cognitive. There was significantly positive correlation between the cognitive styles and the ability of rule constructing, and also between the cognitive styles and the ability on rule application. If subjects were inclined to be filed-independent, he would have more constructing ability and more ability of rule application.
