Solemn Persistence

No doubt has Liu Baiyu the unique status in the Chinese Modern-contemporary literature history, that cannot be substituted, especially the thoughts in his late years are worth studying. But, at present the academic circles give insufficient attention to that. His thoughts and works have not obtained the universal approval and understanding. And they are treated indifferently. This is a representative literature phenomenon. Some writers, which they have got prominent reputation in 50's, the 60's literary world, after entered the new time, is also persevering the literature position, while their wokks is neglected actually. Taking Liu Baiyu as a case of the Chinese Modern-contemporary literature history, this article puts him in the great literature background of the new time, then analyses the thoughts and the works in his late years to explain this literature phenomenon.Besides the introduction and the conclusion, the full text has three parts.The first part describes Liu Baiyu's performance under the new time literature trend. After entered the new time, the literature lost the political fetters and many kinds of new literature tides emerged. Synthesizeing Liu Baiyu's some performance in the new time: the manner to"scar literature works", the critique to Painstaking Love, the idea to modernist litereture works, as well as the approval to Speech, we may see, Liu Baiyu always drifted outside new literature tides of the new time.The second part puts Liu Baiyu in the literature background of the new time to elaborate the Liu Baiyu's writing standpoint. He always wrote for the motherland and the people. After entered the new time,"personal words"became the mainstream sound of the literature arena gradually, but Liu Baiyu still persisted the standpoint of"the people's literature", which takes the collective standard, whose concrete manifestations are in three aspects: To continue to prove the political power validity, to revolt colonialism and to try to remould the national spirit.The third part analyzes the reasons why Liu Baiyu's creations are treated indifferently. Liu Baiyu wrote ceaselessly and had abundant harvest in his late years, but he had not obtained the attention that he should have. The literature idea erroneous zone, the accumulated historical grievances, the absence of ideal spiritual in literature as well as his own writing shortcomings facilitated Liu Baiyu's creations in an awkward state.
