Alfred Garriyevich Schnittke(1934—1998), a representative creator of Russian contemporary music in the middle to late 20 century, was an excellent composer, full of creative ideas. He created many works with many different forms through out his lifetime, and there are a lot of sutra ones in them which won globe reputation for him. Today, Schnittke's work have become the focus of composers and music analysts all over the world.Schnittke's Quintet for Piano was composed between 1972 and 1976, it took him the longest time among all his works, meanwhile, it's his exclusive Quintet. In this work, the composer developed the useful and discarded the useless of the avant-garde's serial technique and comparative aesthetic idea since post war-second before turning towards extruding the lyric and simply quality in his music. When it comes to dealing with tone-organize, structure and style, etc. this piece is exceptional. Therefore, the Quintet for Piano is a symbol for"wholly-new years"for Shnittke. In 1978, the composer transcribed the Quintet for Piano into orchestra work In Memoriam, which showed the work's center status in the composer's eyes.Today, there is a great deal of analysis and research both at home and abroad, but few people have analyzed and researched the Quintet for Piano thoroughly. This dissertation adopts the method of composing technique theory ,music analyze and music history, analyze the representational composing method in the Quintet for Piano combining text and chart from tone, structure, rhythm and gene angle. We will discuss the trans-main-motive, structural-counterpoint and polystylism according to the analyze while the influence of composing time and other composers is concerned. After all, This discuss will maybe provide a material case for expounding how to rethink tonality, arrange the structure, paste multi-gene after the composer's rational serial technique in middle and late 20 century.
