This essay, with the counterpoint techniques in two works of Polystylism composed by China’s renowned composer, Professor Wang Ning, Composition Department of China Conservatory of Music-string quartet Style Dialogue and chamber music Dissimilation-Human and Themselves Pray Song For The End Of The Century—Dedicated1to the year of1999as an entry point, aims to study the counterpoint thinking and the technique characters in Wang Ning’s musical creation; and further extract the ideas guiding his artistic creation, based on technique analysis.This essay includes four chapters:Introduction; Chapter Ⅰ Analysis of String Quartet—Style Dialogue; Chapter Ⅱ Analysis of Chamber Music—Dissimilation-Human and Themselves Pray Song For The End Of The Century—Dedicated1to the year of1999; Chapter Ⅲ Polystylism and Technique Characters in Wang Ning’s musical creation. Among the four chapters, chapter Ⅰ and Ⅱ are the highlights of the whole essay.Through in-depth analysis of the two works of Wang Ning, we not only have a wider understanding of how counerpoint techniques are applied in modern works, but have a more profound perspective on how music acts in reflecting society, exposing reality and depicting man’s fate.
