Ji Kang's Sheng Wu Ai Le Lun is an important chapter in Chinese ancient musical aesthetic history, as well as the difficult points. This paper makes a special study on some aspect of Ji Kang's musical thoughts. Through the comparative analysis of Ji Kang's works and the existed historical materials, it indicates the unique self-contradiction in his musical thoughts, and makes a tentative study on its causes. The introduction is a simple summarization of the research state of his musical thoughts, pointing out that the plight encountered in the study, and intending to illustrate the necessity of searching for a new breakthrough. The body includes three parts:The first chapter, as a core in the whole body, expounds the display of Ji Kang's musical thoughts contradiction, instructing there is contradictions in his musical thoughts, and what are the contradictions .The writer holds that there is contradiction, and it is closely connected with his philosophical ontology. It first analyzes his philosophical ontology, indicating that he did an unfinished job not only in"Yue MingJiao"but also in"Ren Zi Ran". He objects the actual"MingJiao", but makes a new mistake in correcting the old mistakes; it explains the meaning of"sound"in his musical thought, and makes sure that its theme is to discuss whether there are emotions in"music"; it also points out the phenomenon of concept substitution, and inappropriate analogy, considering that it is related with his ontology in which he negates one side and approves the other side; in the end, this paper takes the realations between Ji Kang and Shan Tao as the case in order to prove that his inner conflict is actually connected with his words and behavior in his whole life. The second chapter is the analysis of the causes for the conflict. It believes that, the root of his contradiction or musical thoughts lies in the severe seperation between the great, pure"ideal land"and the real world. He pursues the purity in theory and the beauty in the personality, which leads to his eccentricity; it makes an analysis of the development and the actual situation of the argument of the great masters in Wei and Jin Dynasties, believing that Sheng Wu Ai Le Lun is the complete negation towards emotions, combined with the metaphysical factor: change for changes sake; it looks back the essence of the musical beauty, indicating that the direct reason of Ji Kang's on emotions is the overflow of the"connection between music and politics", and"regarding sorrow as beauty"in the musical theory of"MingJiao"; it makes a primary analysis of Ji Kang's personality, proving that his bigotry and temperament is another cause for the conflict. The third chapter is the evaluation towards Ji Kang. It believes that it doesn't harm his theoretic creativity and his personality charm, although there are distinct conflicts in Ji Kang's musical thoughts.
