The Personality Type And Job Burnout-From MBTI Perspective

The study of burnout has aroused the interest of both researchers and practitioners since the concept was first defined and explored by H.J. Freudenberger in 1974. After reviewing the former related research about burnout, we discovered that the former research was explored mostly from the external perspective such as profession type, job environment, job satisfaction and rarely relevance research from the personality type and the job burnout and scarcely any research from personality type . Because the personality trait theory which the personality type theory and the majority scholars used was very different from research foundation to research structure and so on , therefore the study of job burnout from psychological typology has very important purpose for the development of present researches.The study investigates the elementary and middle schools teachers, and uses the MBTI to carry on the study from the internal cause of personality type . After the classification and comparison of teachers' personality type and the analysis and discussion of the reason of teachers' job burnout from different personality type, we got the conclusion as follows:(1)The different profession demands different personality type ,that is not all of the people suit each work, if there is a big matching difference between personality type and the job, people are easy to become job burnout .For teachers, those who have the personality type of ESFJ are easy to become job burnout;(2)For the subjects' charcteristics such as sex, educational background and marital status, there is little difference among different personality type. Only in the thought and emotion aspect, male and female have significant difference, and in the sensation intuition aspect, subjects have the educational background difference; (3) For the subjects'charateristics such as age, sex, marital status, educational background and school category, teachers have job burnout. The teachers who are older are easier to become burnout, the female teachers are easier to become burnout and the teachers in middle school are easier to become burnout;(4) The personality type has significant forecast effect to job burnout. Especially, the introversion and extroversion has the significant difference in every latitude of job burnout. The teachers who are extroversion feel job burnout much less. For the other three personality types, there are also differences of job burnout.
