The main target of this paper is American agriculture depression in the 1920's. During this period of time, the American economy has entered a phase of the unprecedented rapid development. Most of the industrial sectors and service sectors have made an extraordinary achievement. Meanwhile, the economic operation has also exposed many problems. One of them is the persistent downturn of the agriculture in this decade. From an economic perspective, it was the relative surplus in agricultural production that causes the depression. From the view of history, however, the reason of overproduction is very complicated. Based on the research results obtained from the Chinese and foreign scholars, this paper, from a historical perspective and various aspects, will make a comprehensive analysis of causes of American agriculture depression in this decade.First, this article will gaze to the domestic market. By comparing the agricultural product mix and the structure of consumption, it will make an analysis of the low price caused by the lack of co-ordination between production and consumption. Then, it will gaze to the international. First World War, an international affair which affected American economy development in 1920s, made a great impact to the American agriculture. The stimulation to the American agricultural development is temporary, but the negative effect has actually affected American agriculture quite long period of time. Follow this, the article will make the American agriculture as a whole set under the time background, namely the industry society fast development time. Under the new condition, the boom and the slump of the agricultural depend on the adjustment and the adoption to the industrialization. Meanwhile under the new historical condition, it also sets new require to the role which the U. S. government had to act in the economical development. At last, the article, from the policy angle, will appraise the effectiveness of the methods by which the U. S. government solves the problem in agricultural development.
