| In recent years, music education of institute of science and engineering has attracted more and more attention. Music education has a special role in educating college students, and therefore plays an important part in art education of institutes of science and engineering. As a result of history, there have been various problems in music education of science institutes, such as, most educators lack comprehensive and rational awareness of music education. The writer has made a survey of the current situation of music education of science and engineering institutes and found out several causes that handicap the development of music education of science and engineering institute. A number of solutions and strategies are proposed in accordance with social tendency and demand of talents.The article has four sections. Part I , current situation of music quality education of science and engineering students, including interpretations of quality and quality education, current situation of music quality of science and engineering students, and current situation of music quality education of them. Part II, characteristics of science and engineering students, which includes the students' psychological characteristics of learning, the environment of learning and living and means by which they obtain music information. Part III, studies on strategies of music education of science and engineering students. Strategy 1: convert the conception of education. Strategy 2: Specify the targets of music education in S&E institute. Strategy3: Improvement of the teaching content and develop new approaches to music education.
