Rhetorical question is difficult to master for foreign students, in order to find good teaching method, we should first know the general condition of the learners. Therefore, we made a questionnaire which contains two parts, one is let the objects choose which are the right meanings of the rhetorical questions, the other one is let the objects make sentence according to our requirement. Fourteen types of marked rhetorical questions are included in our research. By analyzing the data from the questionnaire, we found that: to middle level and high level learners, the difference of the abilities of using rhetorical questions is obvious, whereas the abilities of understanding rhetorical questions is not. By analyzing the inductive corpse from the questionnaire, we found that: because of the modal problems, there are many kinds of errors in the corpse, even to high level learners, let along middle level learners. Moreover, we also did some research on the Interlingua corpse, firstly analyzed the overall characteristic of the Interlingua corpse, then checked the error forms. Our viewpoints are: it's really difficult for learners to master rhetorical questions, the main problem is using but not understanding, the main reason is lacking appropriate language environments. On the base of this research, we have two suggestions: first, Use some dialogues which are close to the lives of foreign students in the textbooks, instead of some dialogues which are filled with factors from traditional culture; combine the marked forms and pragmatic functions of the rhetorical question, arrange them in the teaching materials of different level; design more communicative exercises in the textbooks. Second, make the drilling of rhetorical questions playing an important role in the class; give some strategies training about mega cognitive. We believe that students will gradually make progress after we make these efforts.
