Just as what Dai Jinhua pointed out, Chinese Movie'is always a typical and meaningful object', which makes culture study a hot topic. Among the various Chinese movies, those directed by Zhang Yimou or Chen Kaige could never be neglected. Taken as splendid but difficult to receive an exact comment, those movies, to a certain extent, reflect the embarrassed fate of Chinese movies in the global communication among multi-culture. Taking this kind of movie as the theme, the thesis is trying to interpret the movie scripts under the frame of postcolonial criticism, illustration of culture and aesthetics of post contemporary from the angle of culture study such as culture identification, cognition, misunderstanding, etc. These movies embody the main characteristics of current cultural context from the physical technology, art of thought and culture of nation. In the view of global open-up, though their pervious movies acquired the international recognition, they became the attacked target in the riproaring postcolonial context. Their successes should be attributed to the explicit and constrained national spirit as shown in their movies. Their movies, prompted by the visualization of international media technologies, gradually become the popular mass consumptive movies which highlight the singularity and video-audio enjoyment. All this can be taken as the asymptote of the developing trend of Chinese contemporary movies.
