On The Feminine Characteristics In The Art Works Of Chinese Female Oil Painters

Thumbing through the Art history of China, people can only findTangShuyu's Yutai Painting History in Qing dynasty, which in cluded thefemale painters of Qing dynasty and before, and TaoYongbai and LiDi'sThe Lost History—the Feminine Painting History of China, whichrecorded only a few female painters, Female painters were describedcurtly and without detail in most books of Art history. This paperelucidates the view on the feminine characteristic in women's Oilpainting works with systematic and general analysis, according to thoselimited historical materials of art. This paper has no intention to deal withthe artistic Feminism, Contrarily, the writer's original intention is, on afemale painter's own opinion, to unscramble and seek for the paintingstyle and feminine characteristic of the women's Oil painting works bywriter's pure visual experience, relying on analysis of the reasons and thehistoric background of the forming of artistic feminine characteristics.The paper sorts out the painting style of Chinesewomen's Oil paintingworks over the past hundred years. Under the influence of female'sphysiological and psychological characteristics, the social politics, as wellas the carrying forward of history and culture, female painters' paintingstyle and features differ from male's obviously. By means of research andclassification, female's painting features that differ from male's are divided into three parts for study: women's leisurely mood, misogyny,and women's independence and self-flaunt. Then each feature is studiedby two periods. The writer expounds women's leisurely mood by citingthe works of the famous female painters in the Republic of China era andof those urban disengaged ones at present; expounding misogyny byfemale's Oil painting works in the Revolution Age and some in thecontemporary era. Likewise, female's independence and self-flaunt isembodied by female's works in the modern times and in the present age.Based on the flourishing of today's female's Oil painting,Managing to follow on the feminine characteristics in female Oil paintingworks over the past hundred years, the writer hopes this paper can havesome realistic effects on improving the brink-state of female's Oilpainting and giving fully play to female painting theory.
