Chen Duxiu and Hu Shi were not only well-known leader ofthe New Culture Movement, but also pioneers which explored newmodern education. Around the May 4th New Culture Movement, ChenDuxiu and Hu Shi full of patriotic enthusiasm which are nationalsurvival, strengthening the country and enriching the peopleinvested into the education practice, proposed many profoundeducation thought and reform proposal, made a usefulexploration and contribution to the modern chinese educationreform and development. Their education viewpoint andexperience were insight at that time, they still has importantreference. Comparing their education thought and learning someuseful nourishment may develop our country education well andhave practical significance to the socialist modernization.This paper is composed of five chapters:The preface explains briefly the reason of choosing thistopic and its significance, as well as the existent researchsituation in the academic circle.The first chapter mainly introduces Chen Duxiu's educationthought and practice from five aspects.The second chapter summarizes Hu Shi's education thoughtand practice from five aspects.The third chapter compares their education thought andanalyzes their thinking of the similarities and differences ineducation. On criticizing the old education, advocating the neweducation; Expanding education content; paying great attentionto the heuristic teaching, applying theory to practice,developing student' s personality, their education view is thesimilar. The difference displays in three aspects:the educationfunction, the education object and the attitude of Western education.The fourth chapter analyzes the reason of their thinkingof the similarities and differences in education. Theirsimilarities is due to their similar experiences, timebackground and being influenced by Darwinism. The differencesresult from their different origins, philosophy view, choice ofthe modern European and American, inspection perspective oneducation.At last, the conclusion points out the education reformenlightenments that we can get from his comparison of educationthought.
