The Experimental Research On Color-object Stroop Effect

The presentation and processing of color-object Stroop effect is an important topic of cognitive psychology. It is helpful to explore the presentation and processing mechanism of color-object. At the base of foreign study, we present the material by vision and hearing, adopt two task of naming and the pressing key. Meanwhile, not only color - object (picture) was included, but also the new paradigm color - object (words). We study the presentation and processing, influencing factors, theory of color-object Stroop effect. Our result can validate perceptual symbol system and activiation diffuseness model. We develop picture-word consistent effect for pictureword- color consistent effect. There were 4 experiments in our researches.In experiment 1, we suppose there is a kind of relatively stable connection between color and object. Survey 1 study children's connection to color - object. The experiment uses freely task of painting, records color percentage of painting to each picture; Survey 2 study adults to color - object connection. The experiment uses freely task of associating color, records the color name and the percentage. The result indicated 4-6 children and adult have a kind of stable connection to the color - object.In experiment 2, by using vision presentation and naming task, we study color-object (picture) Stroop effect. When presents pictures of the object, we asked them to name the name and color of the picture. According to the color of object standard degree, we divides into the picture color of object standard degree to be high, middle, low three levels. Result showed: there is no remarkable difference between naming picture name and color. Among the object color standard degree, there are remarkable differences. When naming name of picture, we don't percept the consistent effect to color - object Stroop effect, but there are significant interference effect of color- object Stroop effect; When naming color of picture, not only consists consistent effect, but also significant interference effect to color-object Stroop effect.In experiment 3, by using vision presentation and naming task, study color-object (word) Stroop effect. When presents word of the object, we asked them to name the name and color of the words. Result showed: there are significant difference between the name and color of word. The reaction time of naming words is shorter than naming color of words. When naming words, it has no color-object Stroop effect; when naming color of words, it has significant color-object Stroop effect.In experiment 4, by using hearing presentation and pressing task, study color-object Stroop effect. Results showed: among some degree color of color-object, significant differences are founded. Importantly, the response time of naming color of middle degree is longer than the color of low degree.According to our results, the discovery of predecessor and the many kinds of existing theoretical model, we have developed picture-word consistent effect for picture-word-color consistent effect. We propose some factors of effected color - object Stroop effect. At present there isn't theory about color - object Stroop effect, but our result can confirm and support perceptual symbol system and the activation activiation diffuseness model.
