Study On Fujian Image Of West: Taking Paul Claudel's Text As Focus

Fujian is the important window of communication between Chinese and foreigners via ocean. It is also one of the most famous provinces in overseas.Many foreigners either came into Fujian or image this province, so they left us a lot of works about Fujian, such as traveling records, correspondences, essays etc. Stood in their cultural view, they construct image of Fujian for their own sake, but at the same time, they reflected the characteristics of Fujian local culture casually.This article reviewed the cultural communication history between Fujian and the overseas and analyzed various Fujian image in different text made by the western, in order to outline the transformation track of Fujian image in Western view. In the process of review, it is found that although Fujian image is a port of China image, the former has its unique characteristics. What is the difference between Fujian image and China image and analyzed the reasons is the focus of this article.Taking Fujian image in text of East Cognition of Paul Claudel as focus, via help by theory of Imagism and Orientalism, reference with Fujian image made by other western writers in the different time or the different location, this article displayed the Fujian image made by the foreigners, with Paul Claudel as the representative.From review of Fujian image, this article plan to reach two purposes. Firstly, to know how the writers tell their own desires and think over their own culture by Fujian image. Secondly, via Fujian image by others, to reconsider some cultural characteristics in Fujian and get more ideas of local culture.
