During the Late Ming Dynasty and Early Qing Dynasty,Yongquan Temple in Gushan Mountain of Fuzhou in Fujian Province, was an important place of the Chaodong Sect of Zen. The famous Buddhist Monks, Yuanxian and Daopei were active and they formed a new sect—Gushan Sect which passed on their fixed heritage. On the basis of a great of documents, the article applies the past and present findings of academic research, giving a fair evaluation to the historical status of"Gushan Zen"in the history of Zen. Furthermore, in method of religion and sociology, the essay specifically observes the religion ideology of"Gushan Zen"and its influences in social areas, pointing out its significant consequence in Buddhism history, especially the relationship between Gushan Buddhism and Taiwan Buddhism, both of which have the same origin.
