The Yong Men's Christian Association(YMCA) appeared in England in 19th century and was then introduced into China .Before liberation it was a very active and influential Organization ,not limited in the religious life, but paying great attention to all kinds of social life. According to its principle of"not enslaving ,but serving others", it carried out the education of moral, wisdom, physical training and masses , took part in social reforms and served the broad masses. YMCA was one of the youth associations in cities of China , whose activities greatly influenced on Guagnzhou, as well as on all Guangdong province. But scholars has not paid enough attention to it and published only a few papers on it.The author attempts to introduce Guangzhou YMCA(GYMCA)'s origin, development , membership , finance and organization and make the readers get a comprehensive knowledge of GYMCA. The focus will be on its four kinds of activities before 1945.Besides, the paper also touches on the service and contributions of the GYMCA during the anti-Japanese war including its propagating, service for the refugees and the army ,etc. Finally, the paper has made some comments on its activities within the context of the broad historical domestic and foreign background .
