In ancient China, Mathematics was usually used as the tool in the study of Astronomy. The two subjects were tightly combined for the practical use. was one of the most important books of this kind. The contents of the book can trace back to the conversation between Zhougong and Shanggao in early Zhou Dynasty in about 11 Century B.C. Enlarged and revised several times by several persons in hundreds of years after it was originally written, it was finally finished in West Han Dynasty in around 200 B.C.
