Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty has always been considered as the accessory of Ch'uan-Ch'i in Tang Dynasty. The misunderstanding of the dispute on whether Ch'uan-Ch'i of Tang Dynasty is superior to that of Song Dynasty or vice versa has covered the prints left by Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty in the development of Chinese narrative literature.Actually, narrative patterns in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty are not the same as those in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Tang Dynasty completely.Based on the narratology theories, this paper will study the narrative patterns in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty from four aspects:narrative time and space, narrative angles of view, narrative structures, and narrative technique.Chapter one is "the Narrative Time and Space in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty ".Narrative time sequence is the first and the most intuitional impression to the readers when they read a fiction. Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty often use normal narrative time sequence.Besides,it also employs anachronies, such as analepsis, prolepsis, and additional narration, which make narration more intact and more various. With regard to the narrative frequency in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty, there are more examples of single narration than those of multiple narration.Adjustment to the frequency can make the process of the stories more distinct.Magical time and space is set up in people's dreams frequently,in which reality is reflected and life is experienced.Chapter two is "the Narrative Angles of View in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty".In Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty, the ambiguity of personal pronouns reflects the overlapping of authors and narrators;the change of personal pronouns and the flow of view's angles reflects the complicated relation between personal pronouns and angles of view. The proper choosing and flexible use of narrative angles of view form the interaction between the authors, the works, and the readers.Chapter three is "the Narrative Structures in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty".The basic narrative structures in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty are rooted in the historical fictions'structure. There are some other structures in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty, such as clue structure, embedded structure and frame structure. As far as the whole structure is concerned, some authors are good at ending the fictions with crucial comment. And some authors like ending the story with happy endings, which has developed into a common plot pattern.Chapter four is "the Narrative Technique in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty".Description about people's mind in Song Dynasty is simple and short.Obviously, this kind of description is not the best, but it's the first try to concentrate on people's mind in Chinese ancient fictions. The introduction of Ci-Poetry into Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty not only strengthens its lyricism, but also shows its communication with other literature styles in Song Dynasty.Through properly fusing Chinese and Western narratology theories, this paper aims to display the narrative patterns in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty, and tries to find the differences between the narrative patterns in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty and those in Ch'uan-Ch'i of Tang Dynasty so as to earn a position belonging to Ch'uan-Ch'i of Song Dynasty in the development of Chinese narrative literature.
