| With the widely developing and practicing of college English teaching reform, with the closely relationship between the purpose of college English teaching and social life after the revision of the college English teaching syllabus, the reform of pedagogics is extremely pressing and imminent. At present, the practice of college English teaching reform has acquired the elementary effects, but there still exist many problems which cannot be ignored. Therefore, it is the most important thing that teachers should find a suitable kind of pedagogics nowadays.Pedagogics of college English are often various. Three current approaches of college English teaching are mentioned in Chapter One. They are Community Language Learning, Communicative Language Teaching, and Cooperative Language Learning. And their merits and demerits are presented respectively in order to make a good comparison and contrast with the approach directed by Multiple Intelligences Theory.Chapter Two opens with the theoretical bases of Multiple Intelligences Theory, including biological and psychological, cognitive and cultural basis; and eight bases given by Howard Gardner. Three distinctive meanings of intelligence, literature review and the eight intelligences of Multiple Intelligences Theory are also introduced. Chapter Three shows the details about the present empirical study, including hypothesis, methodology, data collection and analysis, findings and discussion. Subjects and instruments are detailed. 110 subjects are involved in this study and six methods are employed including literature study, questionnaire approach, interview approach, observational approach, English test and statistical analysis. Based on the results of data analysis and detailed discussion, the hypothesis has been supported and put forward. Chapter Four focuses on the implications for college English teaching, especially the propositional activities. The last part aims at giving a brief summary of the previous chapters, stating the limitations of the present study and recommendations for further research.This study explores two groups in language teaching-learning process—college English teachers and college English students based on Multiple Intelligences Theory. According to this study, some implications and findings are put forward. Though limitations still exist in this study, this study may make contributions to the future research in this field. Therefore, the present study will shed light on individual learner's intelligence differences research and college English teaching as well. |
