Edward Morgan Forster is a famous English novelist and essayist in the first half of the 20th century, who leaves behind several significant and interesting novels in the history of English literature, among which is A Room with a View. Besides his unique writing style, Forster's cultural thoughts are subtly reflected in this novel. It is Forster's life experience that makes a strong impact on the formation of his specific cultural thoughts.In this dissertation, through careful analysis of some major characters in the story, three important ideas of Forster's are to be examined, namely, "undeveloped hearts", influences of "heterogeneous culture" and "Liberal Humanism", which are reflected in this novel.By getting a deep insight into Forster's intellectual mind, we can have a better understanding and appreciation of this writer.
