In our country, there is a long historical origin and deep social base in folk beliefs. It constituted a major part of folk culture. Folk beliefs has been considered as ignorant and backward feudalistic superstition, it has been criticized and even forbidden for some time .Since the eighties of the 20th century, folk beliefs has presented the upsurge of revival, this demonstrates that it has dogged vitality and great adaptability. Investigation of folk belief will contribute to the understanding of social culture of basic level, and the life of common people as well as the structure and operation in local society. Today, folk beliefs can promote the variety of culture, safeguard the social stability and push social development harmoniously.At present most of relevant studies focus on folk belief in South China, while relatively less in the Northwest, especially in Xinjiang Province. This thesis focus on the Balikun Hans people in Xinjiang Province and aims to investigate diachronically to make up for this weak line by putting folk belief in the local society's circumstances with the methods of community studies and fieldwork in social anthropology.Based on large number of first-hand materials and productions, this paper draw the outline of social custom of the Balikun Hans people in Xinjiang. It consists of three parts. Namely, the first part briefly introduces the history and source of the Hans people in the Balikun, which provides the background and the other materials. The second part dwells on the folk beliefs of the Balikun , which includes aspects of gods, witchcraft and taboo. The third part is the emphases of the paper, which included manufacture, daily life and festival.
