Qu Zao was one of earlier books of drama theory in Chinese traditional drama criticism history, as well as the very influential theory of a drama works in Jiajing and Longqing years, Ming Dynasty. Its author Wang Shizhen was not only a prestigious poet in Ming Dynasty, he was but also the leader as "Later Seven Masters" in "Literature Went Back to Ancient Times" movement.Qu Zao has been occupied a very important place in the history of drama criticism not only because Wang Shizhen's status of literary leader. More importantly, it was due to the characteristics of Qu Zao itself and its important insights. It is regrettable, however, that academia has not yet conducted a comprehensive study or systematic coordination to Qu Zao. In order to correct long-term prejudice and misunderstanding, and to fill the blanks of Qu Zao research , this paper attempts to make a more comprehensive and systematic analysis to it,.The main text of this paper contains two components. The first one is the study about the life of Wang Shizhen and his literature thinking. The second one is the research on Qu Zao. The latter one is the focus of the study, which involves the theory of drama development, the theory of drama language and the theory of drama criticism. This paper will make a more profound analysis and research to Qu Zao from this three perspectives.
