The Researching Of The Imperial Examination On Martial Art Of Tang Dynasty

The imperial examination on martial art, which created in 702 in Wu Ze-Tian's period, is still a very weak part on the study of the imperial examination of Tang Dynasty because of the lack of relevant datum until now .Concerning the imperial examination on martial art, the present scholars often make an incidental mention of it in the end of common imperial examination and thus any one monograph on this subject has not been produced yet. Recently with the development of historical study on Tang Dynasty and the discovery of some new materials including epitaphs excavated from underground, how to deepen the recognition of the imperial examination on martial art has been an urgent problem, and it has a direct bearing on the comprehensive studying and understanding towards the political, economical and military institutions and other cultural phenomena of Tang Dynasty. This thesis is about to have a relatively complete combing on the imperial examination on martial art mainly through combing the institutional aspect, with the empirical study .It mainly consists of four chapters, and also with an introduction formerly and a conclusion lately.The introduction briefly narrates the studying status quo and significance about this subject, defines the narrow and wide conception of imperial examination on martial art and explains the structure of this thesis.The first chapter discusses the reasons why the imperial examination on martial art would be founded mainly through following three aspects: ecnomics, politics and military affairs. The second chapter analyses the contents and ways of the imperial examination on martial art of Tang Dynasty. The third expounds the implementation of the imperial examination on martial art through the view of practice. The forth analyses the significance and influences of its production, through the historical angle, concretely speaking: its contemporary effects and influences in Tang Dynasty ; its influences on Korea and Japan; its influences on later imperial examination on martial art of Song, Ming and Qing Dynasty, and even on the entrance examination of physical university. Meanwhile , it concisely expounds the main limitations of the imperial examination on martial art of Tang Dynasty through three aspects, the contents of test, the attending qualification and the category of examination .Lastly the conclusion makes total evaluation on the effects and influences of imperial examination on martial art of Tang Dynasty.
