Modernity And Mou Zongsan's Moral Metaphysics

It is an urgent task for temporary Chinese society to rebuild morality. It derives not only from modernity but also reflect rupture of tradition and modern caused by modernity. Modernity is unavoidable fate for every nation. But comparing the western modernity, the national modernity has a different path. Though related to western country, China's modernity has undoubtedly its special characteristics. Therefore, moral rebuilding is not simply surface constitution of the ethical norms, what is more important is to rebuild deeply moral metaphysical foundation. Mou Zongsan's moral metaphysics is a try of reconstruction of the Confucian moral metaphysics in the background of pursuit of China's modernity.This paper is divided into three parts: the first part, discusses Mou Zongsan's interpretation for traditional Confucian moral metaphysics. This is that Mou Zongsan strongly retains Confucian "constant reason" that decides to Chinese value beliefs and ultimate concern as a "moral religion". The second part, Mou Zongsan highlights the spirit of ethics of Confucian moral metaphysics by comparing Chinese culture with Western culture. Including to inherent transcendence, practical reason and moral religion, the spirit of ethics of Confucian moral metaphysics undoubtedly has unique universal significance. The third part, focuses on Mou Zongsan's reconstruction of modern moral metaphysics. Ablation of tension of virtue and intellectuality is positive response of Mou Zongsan for modernity all his life. Therefore, by combining Confucian school of mind with philosophy of Kant and making use of philosophical framework of "one mind brings two aspects", he rebuilds the Confucian moral metaphysics. Mou Zongsan's efforts pave a way for revival of the Confucian metaphysical wisdom.By inherent theoretical path of returning to the original, mirroring each other, creating the new, this paper briefly reappears Mou Zongsan's reconstructing process of the Confucian moral metaphysics; points out Mou Zongsan's moral metaphysics both affirming the importance of knowledge reason and remaining the priority of virtue, undoubtedly replant wisdom root of Confucianism in modernity .This is just what Mou Zongsan wanted to set up under the modernity crisis.
