| The study of language learning strategy has gradually become a hot topic in applied linguistics. Till now, numerous researchers have made researches on language learning strategies. However, few studies have been conducted on art major students. The investigation aims at exploring general patterns of learning strategy application by art major students, correlation between learning strategies and achievements, variations between males and females in learning strategy application and differences between good language learners (GLLs) and less successful learners (LSLs). On the basis of the investigation and analysis, some suggestions were expatiated for English teaching of art major students.According to the investigation and the analysis of learning strategy application of art major students, the study indicates: Firstly, art major students' overall learning strategy application belongs to the medium range, which means learning strategies are employed sometimes. The descending order of frequency of learning strategies is: compensation strategy, cognitive strategy, metacognitive strategy, social strategy, memory strategy and affective strategy. Secondly, learning strategies are positively related to study achievements. Among the six categories, memory strategy and metacognitive strategy are closely related with study achievements. Thirdly, female students employ less learning strategies than male students. The highest frequency of learning strategy used by female students is compensation strategy and the lowest is affective strategy. As to male students, the highest is cognitive strategy and the lowest is social strategy. Fourthly, the results of Independent T-test show that significant differences exist in application of learning strategies between good language learners and less successful learners. Correspondingly, some applications which contribute to English teaching of art major students are promoted. |
