On The Selection System Of Korea Art Exhibition And Localization

Korea Art Exhibition and its selection system can hardly be avoided when it comes to modern art in Korea. The exhibition, organized by Korea governor office at the beginning of 20th century, was a product of Japanese cultural colonization, and it has shared nature with Taiwan Art Exhibition but happened 5 years earlier than Taiwan.By inspecting the system of Korea Art Exhibition and analyzing 23 of these exhibitions, the article tries to answer the question: what kind of cultural idea did some popular concepts reflect? What intention there is in the systemized operation? Thus can we expose the influence Japan, the only empire in Asia of modem times, had on art' modernization in East Asia.The article consists of five parts. The first part "Introduction" explains the meaning of the paper topic and reviews contemporary research in China and beyond; second part analyzes the selection system, especially amendment of the system each time, to find out intention of colonizer; third part make attendee's work style clear by analyzing cases, reshow the special stage in history; forth part talks about localization initiated by selection system, the concepts of "localized impressionism" and "theory of localization" are of magnificent meaning in the research of modernization. The fifth part makes clear the nature of Korea Art Exhibition through comparing it with other exhibitions.
