D.H. Lawrence is an important writer of Britain in the early 1900's. He has an important status in Literature of the World. Lawrence'Novel is an endless treasure and shows mystery and eternal gloss. This thesis trys to understand Lawrence'Novel and digs it's connotation and significance in the view of criticizing prototype in order to understand his works deeply.This thesis has three chapters. Chapter one: The exploration of criticizing prototype. Today criticizing prototype is one of the most famous literary criticizing theory, and the organizer is Frye. Frye's criticizing prototype theory based mainly on Carl Gustav Jung's depth psychology, Helvetic psychologist, especially on his collective unconsciousness and prototype. And Fraser's anthropology (mainly his mythic theory) was also important for Frye, which was the cut-in point of his criticizing prototype theory. Frye's result, the structure of literature is mythic, and different type form different aspect of"one centre, uniform myth". Literature is divided into myth, legend, advanced imitation, based imitation and lampoon. After these stages, it comes back to myth and shows circle situation. Myth became literature's root. Frye pointed out that a work was consisted of surface configuration composed by imago and deep-seated configuration composed by prototype. Frye insisted that myth was prototype. Frye's criticizing prototype theory analyzed literature phenomena, expounded literary type and course, which has important significance to literatus.Chapter Two: Investigates Lawrence's works in the view of myth----prototype. Literature is shifting myth, and myth is literature's prototype. Lawrence's novels came down in one continuous line with myth. First, plot prototype. Adam and Eve in Bible offer the plot prototype. Through analyzing his novels Sons And Lovers, the Rainbow, Women in Love, Lady Catterley's lover, we can find easily that the author surrounded the disharmony---harmony between ambisexuality to design his work. All that shows that he was hunting the harmonious relationship between man and woman and reestablishing the harmonious person and society. Second, character prototype. Literature is shifting myth, and the deity in myth was changed into all kinds of character in literature. Pan appeared ceaseless in Lawrence's novels. A series of characters put Pan as their prototype, which incept it's mind and figuration. The leading character in The Rain are similar with Bible's. Several leading character in Women in Love can find their prototype from Scandinavia---Nordic literature in the middle ages. These prototypes enrich dramatis personae. Third, imago prototype. Imago has an outstanding status in Lawrence's works. Surveying imago in Lawrence's novels, their prototypes mainly include: Eden, rainbow, Syria goddess, cattle, and so on. Grasping these imago is important to understand Lawrence's works. Forth, topic prototype. Lawrence found rise again from The Golden Bough, and tried to establish perfect ambisextrous relationship and person's nature palace. Rise again become having connotation topic prototype in Lawrence's works.Chapter three: The factor of Lawrence's novel's myth. First, profound mythic details. West prevails myth richly. Lawrence lived here, and he exerted a subtle influence on here. Especially he read lots of mythic works, which established the basement of his mythic novels. In Lawrence's inditing, the topic, plot, design and language draw the nutrition and afflatus from myth with consciousness and unconsciousness. Myth endows Lawrence's works supernatural infinitude charm. Second, introversion aesthetic angle. Lawrence's novel used introversion aesthetic angle to open people's subconscious chest. As emblematical annotation of spirit sentiment and mental exploration, myth is similar with Lawrence's introversion aesthetic angle. Introversion aesthetic angle is Lawrence's myth's integrant complication. Third, intense misery sense. When he was facing austere realism, he tried his best to show treaded down and cleavage appulsively person in industrial civilization in order to arose people's self-retrieval consciousness. What's more, he called person's original appetence, such as hearty vitality, bloody consciousness, intuition and so on. That is the misery sense that spur the writer experience such profound life. And the works with myth seek all kinds of way to oppugn modern doom. Indeed, Lawrence's myths also have corresponding theory.
