Tenggu is a unique and creative writer by his aestheticism and decadence style. He was born in a scholar family and studied in Japan in his youth. Tenggu was deeply influenced by western literary theories during his study in Japan. The forming of his writing style—aestheticism and decadence, was influenced by western philosophies of pessimism and nihilism, meanwhile, it is penetrated by his humanity towards reality. In addition, the writing skill of autobiography helped him a lot to realize his aim in the process of writing. The research of Tenggu will help us to know the spread of western aestheticism and decadence in China, and the literary movement of different school during 1920's-1930's. In that way, Tenggu couldn't be forgotten by literary history. The thesis will discuss Tenggu's works by the approach of his style. The first chapter deals with the distinct characteristics of Tenggu's novels—aestheticisin and decadence: such as eerily dark atmosphere, morbid and crazy characters, exaggerated and grotesque plot, carnal description and fidgety psychological description etc. We can feel strongly the impression of English aesthetic theoretician, for example Pater,Wilde,Baudelaire. The second chapter deals with Tenggu's humanity towards society. Although Tenggu adopted the theory of aestheticism and decadence in his writing, he was different from the representatives of aesthetic school, such as Wilde in England,Shaoxunmei in China. The latter even claimed that art has no connection with reality, for those writers were fully involved in their own world. In opposite, Tenggu's works have paid attention to the poor of their humble life and the national revolution. The third chapter deals with western philosophies of pessimism and nihilism.Tenggu was influenced by western philosophies deeply, especially Nietzsche and schopenhauer's theories, which makes his works pessimistic. The thought of pessimism, nihilism and the consciousness of death went through his whole works. The forth chapter deals with autobiography writing technique. Since he was affected by western writing style and his personality was interior and sensitive, naturally, he chooses autobiography-writing style, as this writing technique can be easily controlled in the process of planning plot and make the writer realize aim easily.
