Recently, many studies got the result that colours could improve the recall scores of natural scene pictures. But for the function mechanism of visual memory in natural scene, Opinions vary. To sum up,it can be divided into three hypotheses:1,Picture processing is independent of other sense attribute, and during the forepart picture processing, the effect of colours is limited. 2,Colours improve recall scores by improving the edge detection and surface segmentation of pictures.3,Colours can play an advancing role by joining as a memory token attribute.Owing to the implemental limits, mostly past research processed a long time. Recently, for the development of computer science technology, pictures can be presented by fast speed, and the study of forepart picture processing becomes deeper and deeper. Aims at these hypotheses,The study processes the experiments at 16ms and 50ms .Experiment 1 carries on nature scenes recall under the patterns of coloured presentation and black and white presentation, and forms 4 pattern combinations. It analyses the recall scores and compares Ian Spenth et al.'s hyphtheses model, finally it analyses the picture function way .The final conclusion is that in the forepart processing phase of nature scene picture, colours contribute to picture's memory by sense apporach of presentation phase ( improving edge detection and surface segmentation)and in the longer processing phase, colours contribute to pictures sucessful recall by sense approach of recall phase and coding consistency.Experiment 2 carries on colours and white and black recall to familiar pictures and common pictures. It validates the conclusion of experiment 1 further. It is that during forepart processing phase of picture, colours is only feeling promotion. It has no connection with colours information deposited in our brain. Finally, aims at the deficiency of this study, we bring up prospect for future study.
