In this thesis, the author introduces the present opinions about the character of God in John Milton's Paradise Lost. And then, the author analyses these opinions and discusses the shortcomings of these opinions. And in the course of the discussion, the author gives his opinion that in Paradise Lost God is the real hero.In the first chapter, the author compares the image of God in Paradise Lost with the image of God given by the churches and analyzes the opinion about the Holy Trinity and demonstrates the irrationality of the idea that Paradise Lost is a kind of recitation of the dogmas of the church.And in the second chapter, the author compares the image of God with the image of Satan and demonstrates the irrationality of the idea that Satan is the hero of this epic and God is the villain.In the third chapter the author demonstrates the irrationality of the idea that the inconsistence of the theme and characters in Paradise Lost by analyzing the consistency of the characters in God the Father and Son.In the conclusion, the author demonstrates the idea that God the Father is the symbol of justice and truth and God the Son is the symbol of the right leadership of the revolution for whom John Milton desired.
