The writer used the method that investigates with the field of anthropology to the Shang Guchen village, Liuxiang town, Jinxiu country in Guangxi. Through a minute investigation about the using,passing on and protecting of the traditional clay drum dance of ao-yao, find the primitive form of the dance is retained fair completely in Shang Guchen village. The traditional clay drum is a symbolic sign of ao-yao—a branch of the Yao nationality. The traditional clay drum dance whose prop is the clay drum is a heritage of primeval religion, it plays an important role in ao-yao's rites of offer sacrifices to the King-Pan. This dance includes the ao-yao's people's consciousness, such as nature worship,ancestor worship,totem worship and virgin worship. It has significant social functions, for example, amuse gods,people and oneself, safeguards the traditional ceremony and strengthens national unity. The clay drum dance maintains the whole identification among the ao-yao's people.Now, at the setting of the trendency of economy globalism and the course of modernization quickens unceasingly, this thesis show concern for the crisis that the traditional clay drum dance culture faces closely. At the base of drawing advanced experience of protecting culture inheritance all over the country, this thesis clarify significance and suggestions about the protecting and passing on of the traditional clay drum dance culture.
