Social background and political reform of the Northern Song Dynasty impact Su Shi's life and pursuit of art. Su Shi as a court official is a great master at the practice of literary and artistic creation. He showed the spirit of the Northern Song Dynasty which is querying of the ancient and striving for change. In the sense of style, the art of his handwriting can be divided to three periods: preproduction of advocating verve, a sudden change of temper, maturity of self-expression. The dividing range of the three periods is the political events affecting his whole life, which is Wu Tai Poetry Case.
