Abstract National isolation is an external policy which was applied by the Edo shogunate to deal with the relationships with the outside world but not used to cut off the communication with the foreign country in modern era. Its aim was to eliminate the threats which were brought by western influences whose medium was Christianity.This policy facilitated the shogunate to monopolize the information of the foreign trades and prevented Daming to strengthen its power through foreign trade.Under this circumstance, Dezima occurred.The shogunate collected the informations which were offered by netherland merchantmans which came to Japan annually.Analysing those infos they basically acquainted the positions and development orientations of overseas especially the western countries.We should pay great attention to the phenomenon that through Dezima the shogunate and the folk scholars of studying Dutch bought a great deal of Holand natural science and social science books on astronomy, geography, iatrology, physics, chemistry, botany and so on.These books had become the solid foundation of the Dutch studies.In addition,some scholars who interested in western science could inquire the Dutch about all kinds of advanced technologies when Netherlandish commerce administrator visited Edo generals.The Dutch brought the Japanese the modern science concluding Galilei and Newton science systems which were the production after western technology revolution.During the National isolation period,the primary western scientific achievements had been introduced into Japan.From 1641 which year is 218 years after the foundation of Japan-to 1859,Dezima was the only commercial base of Dutch in Japan.It played important role in Japan history,for it is the stage where Japan communicated with outside world at the time;the window from where the European civilization entered Japan;the only place where Japan acuquired the oversea information and the development base of medicine of the modern Japan.
