Dai Houying is one of the most powerful writers in Chinese contemperary literature history in the new time. That is not only because that she had experienced an imaginable life, but also mainly because of her distinct composition after the period of the Cultural Revolution. As a writer of scholar, she accumulated abundant knowledge and had an instinct about the rational thinking, which together made her composition more deep in thought. In this paper, some abstracted works on the intellectual topic will be studied as the object. Beginning with the identity sense of the intellectual, combining with its concrete time background and the writer her personal life experiences, it is going to analyze the identity sense of Dai Houying as an intellectual. For a long time, there hasn't an untied definition for the intellectual in the academic circle. Here, in the preface intellectual is defined, and also in here it is determined to focus on the intellectual in the extensive meaning as the research object and make the intellectual in the intensive meaning as the evaluating standard to analyze images of intellectuals in Dai Houying'works. In my opinion, it is an effective way to know her identity sense of an intellectual. Secondly, I stress her compositional circumstances and the currently academic study situations.Part I deals with personal trauma and identity loss. Through the analysis of the author's background, her psychology, and her work Death of the Poet, I believe that Dai Houying at this time writes rather to relieve her feelings without self-reflection and independent personality. Her infinite loyalty to the Party lacks the transcendental pursuit of value. The self trauma is destined not to be able to find the way of redemption under the loss of identity.Part II is about meditation and identification. Through the analysis of her masterpiece Man, Man and the literal environment of the time, I find that her bold meditation and reality construction enable her to step away from the main ideology, which shows the courage of an intellectual as the vindicator of"social consciousness"and the basic values of humanity (such as reason, freedom, justice). It also conforms to humanity.Part III describes the entanglement of interpersonal relationship and identity crisis. Through the analysis of the background and content of Kong Zhong de Zu Yin , Dai Houying, who has just broken loose from the cultural revolution with her passion and rationality have not been internalized into the stable psychological structure, is confined by interpersonal relationships. This confinement often comes in the form of organizational authority, which makes her self-consciousness and value pursuit appear desolate and lonely. Her realization of identification encounters a crisis under such reality.Part IV focuses on the market impact and identity marginalization. It mainly analyzes her Xuan Kong de Shi Zi Lu Kou and Nao Lie associated with the impact of market economy in the late eighties and early nineties. Dai Houying consciously marginalizes herself. Although this process is filled with oscillation and uneasiness, her insistence on meditation is tested at the same time.By analyzing the identity sense of the intellectual in her different compositional periods, We find that the identity senses of the intellectuals are often indefinite. They have certain self-consciousness, independent personality and the separable pursuit of value, but they are often changeable in different historical sufferings, social circumstances and cultural situations. Even though Dai Houying is such an intellectual with so strong self-consciousness we can always feel her bewilderedness and no choice.
