Textbooks are always of great importance in every branch of learning, while exercise in the textbooks of Chinese listening is the key element to the teaching effect of classroom teaching activities.The lack of motivation has long been the problem in Chinese listening classroom, due to the result-oriented listening exercises. In order to improve the quality of Chinese listening exercises, we are going to seek a new design theory and method from schema theory and task-based teaching pedagogy.Therefore, in this thesis, first, we discussed the possibility and necessity of the combination of schema theory and task-based teaching pedagogy, which was then used as a theoretical foundation to analysis the advantages and disadvantages of current practices in listening exercise designing, based on a study of five elementary Chinese listening text books. At the end of this thesis, the principles and ways of listening exercise design were discussed, and a series of listening tasks would be displayed along with a sample of Chinese listening lesson.
