The thesis intends to present the perspective of in-betweenness on translation, based upon translators' and translation scholars' operations and arguments.Looking through the history of translation and translation studies, one can easily find some "strangely coherent opposing traditions". Most translators and translation scholars tend to follow one tradition and simply not to see the other. Consequently the "grey area" between the opposing is often neglected and despised in practice and research. Such viewpoints of dualism have resulted in the stagnation of translation studies. This thesis accordingly argues for the perspective of in-betweenness on translation. "In-betweenness" here refers to "integration" and "dynamics" in essence. What translation is like in the in-between perspective is to be presented in the following three aspects: (1) the translation identity-translated texts are argued to be an independent system existing between the SL system and the TL system; (2) a translator's choices of translation strategies-a translator's experience of diasporas is argued to be critical for balanced translation strategies; (3) the prominent linguistic feature of translations-hybridity is argued to be the prominent linguistic feature of translated texts which is to be studied in a diachronic way in this section.
