The Analysis Of GuiZi's Novels By Methods Of Narratology

In the middle and latter half of the 1990s, GuiZi was a young writerwhose compositions gradually aroused the critic's attention. Manyresearchers showered papers to show the comments on GuiZi's novels.But most of them didn't make a comprehensive study on GuiZi's novels.However, they only involved in single factors in GuiZi's novels.Therefore, the characteristics of GuiZi's novels can't still reveal fully.GuiZi goes into the deep social reality during the course of writingnovels. In order to get the aim, he pays close attention to the narrativeway. His style consciousness provides us with a possibility to analyze orstudy his novels from the narratology perspective. This thesis aims at anarratology research on GuiZi's novels from two levels: one is to analyze"narrative structures" of the stories, i.e., the logic of storylines; the otheris to study "narrative discourses" of the texts, i.e., the law of expressiveforms.There is a common theme and resemble storyline logic in most ofGuiZi's novels. The author of this thesis generalizes the common themeas "suffering". Inspired by this way in which A·J·Greimas, a Frenchnarratologist, uses the compartmentalization of sequences to analyze tales,the author divides GuiZi's novels into four sequences, analyzes eachsequence carefully and explores the relations between each sequenceduring analyzing his novels' "narrative structures".GuiZi attaches great importance to the arrangement of "narrativediscourses" in his novels. In this thesis, the author mainly studies the characteristics of "narrative discourses" in GuiZi's novels from threelevels, i.e., "narrative time", "narrative manners", and "narrative voice".In the course of studying on the "narrative discourses" of GuiZi' novels,the context don't reach every aspect of a matter, the author pays moreattention to those aspects which can reflect GuiZi's unique style, ratherthan anything in his novels.In writing novels, GuiZi not only sticks to the social reality but alsoput a high premium on the narrative way. The unique composition wayprovides a new direction for contemporary literature which is alwayswandering between two poles of "reflecting reality" and "narrativerevolution".
