| An Inquiry Concerning Menfucius's Thought of Moral BildungConfucianism pays special attention to how to be a really moral person, and moralization is the key topic of the Ethics. But for some reason, few people have studied the Mencius's theory of Bildung. What I aim to do in this thesis is to analyze and clarify the system of Mencius's theory of Bildung. I read Mencius and the treatises written by experts at Mencius's moral theory, and put Mencius and the influence of his theory in the history background to find its vivid picture and deep meaning.Mencius was born in Zhou Dynasty during the period of the Warring states, and his hometown and family give him a good educational background. He inherited and developed Confucius's theory .He assumed that everyone has a desire to become a moral person in his inner consciousness which is the foundation of moral Building. Mencius's theory of moral Building can divided into two parts according to its objective the personal moral Building and the social ethical Building .The former is for monarch and the intellectual, the latter the civilian. Mencius's of moral Building has a deep and great influence on the Chinese traditional society, especially in the political and moral spheres.Mencius stated that every human being is born to have a sense of compassion, shame, consciousness and politely decline; we should make these senses sensitive and preferential in our daily lives in order to teach ourselves morally and uplift our moral stage.Mencius claimed that the monarch should build education system after providing the civilian with the fundamental living standard, in order to build a good social atmosphere and kind custom. The monarch should protect and care the civilian like the parents to their children. The intellectual should educate himself all the time and live a moral life, hoping to help the monarch to build a well-being sociaty.The value of this thesis is to formulate the uniqueness and importance of the Mencius's moral theory.
