Studying Of The Disyllabic And Polysyllabic Words In Lun Yu

The language is the outcome of the society and history, it develops forward continuously along with the history of evolvement. The Chinese language vocabulary transfers the monosyllabic words first to the disyllabic and polysyllabic words first. It is a significant change in the history of Chinese language development. This change has already started at more than 2,000 years the pre-Qin age ago. Therefore, researching the disyllabic and polysyllabic words of pre-Qin is very important. And valuable as china's academic history, at the same time it is the most representative prose work with quotation form at the pre-Qin age—Lun Yu, exactly reflects important document that the Chinese disyllabic and polysyllabic words developed into particular stage of the pre-Qin age.The disyllabic and polysyllabic words within Lun Yu are the research object of this paper, and then we research them quantitatively and qualitatively. At first, this paper makes some strict criterions on identifying the words and phrases on the basis of previous achievement, then find 278 disyllabic and polysyllabic words according to these rules. This paper describes and analyzes the word-formation and the meanings of these disyllabic and polysyllabic words on the base of quantitative analysis, and analyzes the function words within Lun Yu relatively detailed. At last, this paper investigates the reason of the emergence of the disyllabic and polysyllabic words preliminarily.Passing the research, we consider that although the monosyllabic words are the first in pre-Qin Chinese language, the disyllabic and polysyllabic words already have the certain amount and scale. The structure of the disyllabic and polysyllabic words is already very complete, composition has already become the most important and productive word-formation, some frequently used-monosyllabic words show strong word-formation ability. The disyllabic and polysyllabic words of the pre-Qin have the very important position that can't be neglected. We can supply some valuable materials and attestations for the historical lexicology of Chinese through studying the e disyllabic and polysyllabic words of Lun Yu.
