Research On Polysyllabic Words In "Mengxi Bi Tan"

Brush Talks from Dream Brook,written by Shen Kuo in the Northern Song Dynasty,has thirty volumes and is an encyclopedic book.This book records a lot of contents,including astronomy,geography,medicine,literature,painting and calligraphy,etc.reflecting all aspects of the social life.And it has many colloquialisms,reflecting the vocabulary of the Song Dynasty comprehensively.It also has a great reference value for the study of ancient Chinese disyllabic and polysyllabic words.This paper,together with the introduction and the conclusion,has six parts:Introduction:at first,this part introduces the reason of selecting the topic and its significance,and then presents the current researches of the Brush Talks from Dream Brook,and then summarizes the research results of ancient Chinese disyllabic and polysyllabic words.Finally,the part also describes the research methods of the paper.The first chapter:first,this chapter introduces the five criteria for judging the disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook,which are mainly judged from five aspects: lexical meaning,grammatical structure,rhetoric standard,affix mark and frequency of occurrence.Second,the paper,according to the five criteria,describes the general situation of the disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook.There are 2804 disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the book,including 81 single disyllabic and 2683 polysyllabic words and 40 compound disyllabic and polysyllabic words.The second chapter : the chapter analyzes the composition of the single and compound disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook.The single disyllabic and polysyllabic words include reiterative locution,lianmian words and loan words.The compound disyllabic and polysyllabic words include conjunctive formation,modified formation,governable formation,subject-predicate formation,supplement formation,reduplicative formation,attached formation and comprehensive formation.Due to the composition of conjunctive formation and modified formation in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook are complex,the paper analyzes from two aspects: semantic composition and speech composition.The third chapter:the chapter compares the disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook and other nine notes from the two aspects of diachronic and synchronic,summarizes the characteristics of disyllabic and polysyllabic words.The characteristics have two aspects: first,the construction mode of disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook has been completed,the proportion of using grammar to create words has increased,so the polysyllabic disyllabic and polysyllabic words have appeared;second,the word-formation ability is not balanced,and the modified word formation dominates the Brush Talks from Dream Brook.The fourth chapter:the chapter analyzes the additions and corrections of the disyllabic and polysyllabic words in the Brush Talks from Dream Brook to The Great Chinese Dictionary,and its contributions mainly include supplementing entries,supplementing meaning,early documentary evidence,and enriching documentary evidence.Conclusion:this part summarizes the research content and conclusions of the paper.
