Aristotle's Poetics has always been regarded as the earliest classic works on Tragedy.In poetics, Aristotle puts forward the fundamental theoretical frame of Tragedy.Aristotle's deep insight in Tragedy exerts enormous influence on modem dramatists andprovides far-reaching guiding significance for modem tragic study and creation.Speaking of modem tragedy, as the "founding father" of American drama, EugeneO'Neill is unquestionably the representative of modem tragedy. On the one hand,Eugene O'Neill inherits Aristotle's tragedy theory. On the other hand, Eugene O'Neillmaintains a daring experimental spirit, tries on a variety of dramatic techniques andtirelessly seeks to probe into the tragic problem of human existence and suffering,especially that of inner conflicts, and has contributed enormously to the developmentand maturity of American drama and drama in the world.
