Owing to hisproficiency in both Chinese and foreign tragedy art, Cao Yu had produced a good manyworks that enjoyed great popularity. Three of his most famed tragedies, which areThunderstorm,Sunrise and Fields, represented Cao Yu’s highest achievements in tragedywriting. In this paper,I set about the issue from researching the influence that ancientGreece tragedies gave to Cao Yu, in order to explore the contribution made by AncientGreek tragedy and tragedy spirit to the artistic value of CaoYu’s three tragedies. Therehave been large quality of research of Cao Yu as well as his plays, based on which I try toprove that Cao Yu’s plays are filled with spirit of ancient Greece tragedies, and thesame spirit receiving from Ibsen and O’Neill. The application of ancient Greece tragedymind in his three tragedies had improved the deficiency of the traditional plays, such asincompact structure and so on. Thus, the absorption of ancient Greece tragedy mind madegreat contribution to the huge success of those three pieces of plays as well as theplaywright Cao Yu. | Keywords/Search Tags: | Ancient Greece tragedy theory, Cao Yu, Artistic value of tragedy, Ibsen, Eugene O’Neill | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
