Translation, a comprehensive discipline without fountainhead, its inter-disciplinary essence decides that it is necessary for the studies on translation just like the studies on language not only from interior but also from exterior. With its sharp political criticism, the post-colonialism theory, cropping up in mid-1980s, coincides with the cultural paradigm of translation studies. The post-colonial theory, from higher point exercising control over history and reality, take into account such external factors as politics, power and ideology, which in one way or another influences translation activities. As a result, the post-colonial theory with a special perspective will provide a new way for external studies and greatly benefit the forming translatology. This thesis plans to further explore the roles of translation in the course of construction and deconstruction of imperial cultural hegemony through the analysis of foreignization and colonization tendency in the Chinese version of the Bible. And it puts forward a couple of problems of rethinking about translation studies in the postcolonial condition, such as whether there should be translation in the postcolonial condition? The Orientation of translation in the post-colonial condition. Due to the unequal cultural communication in the post-colonial condition, this thesis especially takes into consideration how to introduce Chinese classics to foreign countries more reasonably and truly, among which there are the considering of significance of translating Chinese classics and the subject of doing this job in the post-colonial condition. We hope that the status of weak culture can be changed and our voice can be more heard in the world. And at the same time we can make our contribution to promoting Chinese culture and enhancing equal communication between Chinese and western cultures. At last, the significance and limitations of postcolonial translation theory are taken into account. We hope that we can understand this theory more comprehensively and fully in case some excessive or extremist translated should works come into being, which results in narrow nationalism and the resistance against western cultures strongly and then go against the original attention of establishing translatology aiming at establishing a reasonable pattern of equal communication and contacting between different cultures and different languages at the early age.Because of my limited ability, the purpose of putting forward some problems only wants to draw more relevant scholars' great attention. I hope that more scholars can do more studies in this field. As a result, we can provide more beneficial supplements for translation studies and powerful support and safeguard for cultural construction in China.
