In this dissertation, the author studies the "Narcissusism" esthetics view of AndréGide, afamous Frenche writer in the twentieth century, and raises the viewpoint that the"Narcissusism" esthetics view of Gide is self-discovery, self-reflection, and self-remodeling.This esthetics view is embodied in the creation of the writer, which formes Narcissusiancreation concepts and Narcissusian creation techniques. This dissertation applies the methodsof text intensive reading, cultural and literary comparing, philosophical and psychologicalanalysing. First of all, the author pursues the symbolic meanings of "Narcissus" and theirdevelopmental evolution from the mythology and legends, literature to psychology, anddiscusses the Narcissus complex of Gide and its aesthetic connotation. Secondly, the authorresearches Narcissusian creation concepts in Gide's writings which comprises three aspects:the inter-reflecting between the writer's life and his creation, the interpretation diversity of theBible, and the contradiction of religion thoughts. Thirdly, the author analyses Narcissusiancreation techniques in Gide's writings which consists of monoloque ang dialogue,reconstruction and circulation, multiple narrative perspectives and nested structure. In theconcluding remarks, the author summarizes Gide's influence and points out the furtherresearch direction of this subject. Based on the analysis above, the author draws theconclusion, that is, the aesthetic seeking of Gide is self-discovery, self-reflection, andself-remodeling.
